OPEN WORLD ROMANIA

General Details

The Open World Program is a 10-day program, fully funded by the U.S. Congress, implemented through COIL (Congressional Leadership Office) and the American Councils for International Education. The purpose of the program is to facilitate professional exchanges on topics of interest. Many of these exchanges result in long-term partnerships and collaborations between US organizations/institutions and Romanian organizations/institutions. Open World is one of the most effective exchange programs in the US for Eurasian countries. The program has enabled over 29,000 current and future leaders from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan,

Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Poland, Hungary or Romania to engage and interact meaningfully with Members of Congress, Congressional staff and thousands of other Americans, many of whom are direct professional counterparts of delegates.

The bipartisan nature of the program and its independence from the priorities of any presidential administration is an important asset for Open World.

Designed to build mutually beneficial relationships between future leaders of other nations, Open World is a value-added program that allows for practical and depoliticized options for engagement.

Testimonials

ELISABETA TRAISTARU, CASA BUNA

"Thank you for the opportunity to listen to the stories of others and for the opportunity to tell our own stories. I think travelling, seeing, listening is the best way to grow. We came back with ideas and plans inspired by the places we visited."

LUCIANA ZAHARIA, ZI DE BINE

"And, no, it's not about comparison in the NGO world. We don't do better or worse. We are in many ways the same, we operate in different ways sometimes, but we share the same ideals. It's about shifting perspective. Two steps forward or back, the distance from which you look means an extra gram of inspiration to take back to your own. And if there's one big thing that's been running through my mind since I got back, it's about collaboration with purpose and meaning. Between NGOs, with local representatives."

OVIDIU MIHAI SANDOR, "DR. IOAN MIHALYI DE APSA" SECONDARY SCHOOL, SIGHETU MARMATIEI

A dream experience! I had the opportunity to meet real professionals, the program was very well thought out and put together. Everything was intense, full of challenges, I learned how to approach different social, mental or academic problems. I was taught how to help, I was taught how to support students going through trauma and isolation. These notions will help me in communicating with refugees, but also with my students. Together with my colleagues I spent quality time, constructive on a professional and personal level.

LILIANA CEBOTARI, VALCEA COUNTY SCHOOL INSPECTORATE, RM. VALCEA

This experience makes me wish for more joint projects with school and social institutions in the USA, so that more of our colleagues can improve their methods and implementation strategies very well developed in schools, school inspectorates and in the field of social services and volunteer activities.
